Dhruv Rathee’s Facts
He runs three separate channels — the main Dhruv Rathee channel, Dhruv Rathee Vlogs and Dhruv Rathee Shorts — with a combined subscriber count in the tens of millions.
He’s lived in Germany since his late teens and produces nearly all of his India-focused content from a studio there.
Before politics, his channel was mostly travel content. The pivot came after the 2016 demonetisation announcement, when his explainer on the policy went viral.
He trained as a mechanical engineer and holds a master’s in renewable energy, which is why climate and energy videos keep reappearing in his catalogue.
His 2024 dictatorship video was uploaded during the Lok Sabha election campaign and was discussed on national television news panels within days.
He has faced multiple defamation notices and FIR complaints over the years, including a 2024 Delhi High Court case connected to one of his videos.
Forbes India has listed him among its Top 100 Digital Stars.
He’s written a book and has repeatedly turned down offers to formally join a political party, insisting he wants to stay independent.
Despite the size of his audience, he films most videos himself with a simple setup — a camera, a mic and on-screen graphics.
