Agnetha Fältskog is a Swedish singer-songwriter and actress who quickly rose to popularity in her own country Sweden following the release of her self-titled debut album Agnetha Fältskog in 1968. At the time of her rising fame, the album reportedly sold more than 380 million albums and singles worldwide which placed them on top of various music charts, making them one of the best-selling music artists in history. During the 1980s, she went on to release more albums and landed a major role in a film as a solo artist, which fueled her success with fame both in the music and film industry. She decided to take a break from recording music and went on hiatus for almost 17 years until her next album in 2004 was released. Despite going on a hiatus for more than a decade, Agnetha has always remained a well-loved figure especially in the world of music. She made her comeback in 2013 with A, which apparently turned out to be one of her highest UK chart-topping albums.

She had spent her most successful years with ABBA during which she had produced an array of albums that reached various music charts. Between the years 1968 and 1980, she had a total of 18 entries on the Svensktoppen radio chart from which most were composed and co-written by Agnetha herself. In late 1982, ABBA disbanded but there was no formal announcement made prior to the band’s exit. At the end of 1982, she duetted with Swedish singer and former ABBA bandmate Tomas Ledin and performed a song called Never Again which later became a hit in countries such as Sweden, Norway, Belgium, and South America. From 1985 to 1988, Agnetha had released tons of successful albums including Eyes of a Woman, Come Join Us On Our Carousel, and I Stand Alone. She later went on a hiatus and devoted most of her time to astrology, yoga, and horse riding in her house in Ekero.

Boyfriend / Spouse

Agnetha Faltskog has dated –

  1. Dieter Zimmerman – In the middle of her success during the late 1960s, Agnetha met German songwriter and producer, Dieter Zimmerman, whom she became engaged with shortly after. At the time, her albums made rounds in the German charts and Zimmerman promised her a successful career in Germany. However, it turned out the other way around and the venture wasn’t even productive. Following her career downside, she had also ended her engagement with Zimmerman and returned to Sweden.
  2. Björn Ulvaeus (1971-1980) – Agnetha met Björn Ulvaeus, a member of the Hootenanny Singers in 1968 for the first time. The two met again a year after in 1969 and started a relationship which also led to the formation of ABBA alongside Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson. On July 6, 1971, the former beaus had tied the knot in the village of Verum and her bandmate Andersson was the one who played the organ during the wedding ceremony. She gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Linda Elin Ulvaeus on February 23, 1973, and their son Peter Christian Ulvaeus on December 4, 1977. Following 7 years of marriage, Agnetha and Ulvaeus had decided to call it quits. They officially filed for divorce in January 1979 and it was finalized in July 1980. Amidst the split, the two decided to never let their personal issues and failed marriage interfere with their responsibilities with ABBA. Also, it was said that Ulvaeus’s The Winner Takes It All was inspired by his failed marriage with the singer.
  3. Tomas Sonnenfeld (1990-1993) – She got married to her 2nd husband, a Swedish surgeon, named Tomas Sonnenfeld in 1990. However, it was only a short-term romance as the couple eventually decided to separate and got officially divorced in 1993 following 3 years of marriage.
  4. Gert van der Graaf (1997-1999) – Agnetha had dated a Dutch forklift driver named Gert van der Graaf in 1997 but she decided to call it quits in 1999 following 2 years of dating. Unexpectedly, after she ended their relationship, reports claimed that he stalked her further at her mansion which resulted in a court with a restraining order being issued for Van der Graaf. Returning close to Agnetha’s home in 2003, the man was arrested and was later banned from entering Sweden. In 2005, Graaf was reportedly sighted again nearby Agnetha’s estate in Ekero.
