- Anna and her family moved to North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany in 2007, when she was just 16 years old. After moving there, her father began working as an executive for a transport company until the company closed down in 2013. After this, he started his HVAC business specializing in efficient energy use.

- She was arrested on October 3, 2017, in a sting operation planned by New York Police Department’s police officer Michael McCaffrey. It was her friend Rachel Williams who helped the officer have her caught. Anna appeared in New York City Criminal Court on December 18, 2018, where she rejected a plea deal that offered three to nine years in prison. Her case was sent to trial on March 20, 2019, and was presided over by Judge Diane Kiesel.
- On April 25, 2019, she was incarcerated for criminal charges of grand larceny, second-degree larceny, and theft of services with a penalty of 4 to 12 years imprisonment, a $24,000 fine, $199,000 restitution, and deportation to Germany.
