Billy Dee Williams is an American actor, voice actor, and singer who came to prominence in the early ’80s with his appearance as Lando Calrissian in The Empire Strikes Back (1980).   1. Dee has raised by his maternal grandmother in Harlem on 110th Street, between Lenox and 5th, near Central Park North–110th Street station.
  2. As a child, he wanted to be a painter.
  3. Growing up, he enjoyed watching the Negro leagues and the Cuban baseball leagues at Central Park. Billy even got the chance to film a movie based on the Negro league baseball players, which was titled The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings (1976).
  4. It was his parent’s creativity and love for opera that bestowed upon Billy the passion to become an entertainer.
  5. He was 7 years old when he portrayed a page boy in the Broadway production of The Firebrand of Florence in 1945.
  6. Billy Dee was either 18 or 19 years old when he was nominated for the Guggenheim Fellowship grant.
  7. In the mid-1950, he was presented with a “Hallgarten Prize.”
  8. Billy started acting as a means to be able to pay for the supplies that he needed to paint.
  9. During his time in art school, he took an interest in the Stanislavsky Method and joined the Harlem Actors Workshop.
  10. Billy’s recorded jazz album Let’s Misbehave that was released in 1961 was featured on the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever (1983) TV special.
  11. On January 30, 1996, Billy was arrested for assault on his live-in partner. However, the charges were dropped.
