Brian Lara is a Trinbagonian TV personality, former cricketer, author, and golfer, widely recognized as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. He achieved the highest individual score in first-class cricket with 501 not out for his team, Warwickshire in a match against Durham in 1994. The record remained unbeaten as of late 2019 and was the 1st ever quintuple hundred in first-class history.

At the age of 14, Brian enrolled in Fatima College in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

  1. He is the co-author of his autobiography, Beating the Field: My Own Story (1995) alongside Brian Scovell.
  2. In 1999, Brian scored 153 not out against Australia. Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, a book released annually, also known as the “Bible of Cricket,” rated his performance as the 2nd best batting performance in the history of Test cricket, right after Donald Bradman in a Test match from 1937.
  3. He achieved the highest individual score in Test cricket with 400 not out for his team, West Indies, against England in 2004.
  4. In November 2005, Brian passed the record of an Australian cricketer Allan Border who had an 11,174 total. This made him the leading scorer in Test cricket and he went on to score 226 in that innings.
  5. He held the record for the most runs ever scored by a batsman in Test cricket until October 17, 2008, when Sachin Tendulkar surpassed him.
  6. In November 2009, Brian was appointed honorary member of the Order of Australia and was awarded the right to the title “The Honorable” in front of his name.
  7. He was also awarded the Trinity Cross of Trinidad and Tobago and became a member of The Order of the Caribbean Community in 2008.
  8. In January 2012, he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
  9. Brian’s best friend is a soccer player, Dwight Yorke.
  10. He has a stadium in Trinidad and Tobago, The Brian Lara Stadium, named and opened in his honor in 2017.
  11. Brian is a part of the weird statistic as he has played in the 2nd-highest number of Test matches where his team was on the losing side – 63. Cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul holds the record with 68.
