In the film, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), released a few days back, Charlie Hunnam plays the role of a horse riding and cliff jumping reluctant hero who is to take back the throne that belongs to him from his evil uncle who murdered his father. As one expects, the film includes loads of fighting scenes and sword fights, so the lead actor had to prepare for the role by working hard in the gym and managing his diet. He even had to fight to get the role but he is glad he got it and plans to remain in the film series in the future as well. Read on to know about the efforts he made to look hot in the film.

Getting the Role

The talented actor says that he had to convince the director, Guy Ritchie to take him for the role. There were already 3 reputed actors competing for the same role. As Hunnam had lost a lot of weight for the TV Series Sons of Anarchy (2008-2014), he was very skinny while the director wanted someone who was more physically imposing as the role demanded it. To convince the director, he even said that he was ready to fight with other actors and prove himself to get the role.

The Struggle

One of the biggest struggles he faced while changing his body for the film was that Charlie had to pack on 20 pounds of muscle. He was 20 pounds heavier than how his body actually should have been and it was a constant struggle to maintain that body by keeping the muscle mass on.

Workout Routine

The workout routine of the celebrity included a lot of pull-ups and dips. He got up at 6 in the morning and started the workouts. He already had a playlist packed with hip-hop songs ready with him whenever he worked out. The impact of those songs was that whenever he listened to music, he felt like hitting the gym.

Diet Secrets

Charlie thinks that maintaining the diet is always the hardest part for him because he doesn’t get to eat all the fun things he really likes. To maintain the extra muscles for the film, he ate enormous meals.

Diet When Traveling

As the hazel-eyed actor travels a lot, he shared that he likes packing his own food while traveling. Whenever he is on the road, he likes having an egg salad sandwich before starting the trip. His diet also includes a lot of water, salad, and fruits. He tries to keep it clean. He thinks the more you try to take care of yourself, the less significant would the jet lag be.

Girlfriend’s Opinion

The boyfriend of jewelry designer Morgana McNelis says that his girlfriend was not too impressed by his extra muscle because it made her feel very small in size compared to him. But it wasn’t something that impacted their long-running relationship.

Sword Fights

The Newcastle-born worked with a sword for the role. His sessions were so many that there was the need to hire a sword handler on set. He was so attracted by the swords that he even wanted to take a couple of them with him. He spent 14 days in sword fighting scenes but thankfully he was never injured while shooting.

Future Plans

Though the handsome hunk says that he will be glad to take on more wonderful and weird projects in the future, his focus right now is on the future King Arthur movies as he has signed on for 3 already. He will be doing as much as Guy wants him to do. He usually takes up projects that have straight drama or some masculine roles in which ordinary people do extraordinary stuff.
