Dana Perino studied at Ponderosa High School (commonly referred to as Pondo or PHS), a public high school located in Parker, Colorado. She then enrolled at Colorado State University Pueblo in Pueblo, Colorado, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and minors in both political science and Spanish. During her time at the university, she was in the university’s forensics team as well as worked at KTSC-TV (the campus-based Rocky Mountain PBS affiliate). She was awarded an honorary doctorate of Humane Letters from CSU Pueblo in May 2023.

Afterward, she attended the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) and earned a master’s degree in public affairs reporting. Also, she worked for WCIA as a daily reporter covering the Illinois Capitol while at UIS.
