Daniela Hantuchová Facts

  1. The first significant breakthrough in Daniela’s tennis career had arrived in 2002, 3 years after turning professional, when she had won the year’s Indian Wells Masters event. The icing on the cake was the fact that she had defeated an established pro like Martina Hingis in the final. She had also become the lowest-ranked player to ever win that tournament.
  2. In June 2013, she had become just the 37th female player in the Open Era to record 500 career wins. She had achieved the feat upon winning her 2nd round match at the Aegon Classic tournament.
  3. In 2005, when she won the US Open mixed doubles title, she had completed a ‘Career Grand Slam’ in the mixed doubles format. She was just the 5th female tennis player in history to do so and interestingly, she had a different partner each time she won a mixed doubles Grand Slam title – Leoš Friedl at Wimbledon in 2001, Kevin Ullyett at the Australian Open in 2002, Fabrice Santoro at the French Open in 2005, and Mahesh Bhupathi at the US Open in 2005.
  4. A polyglot, apart from her native Slovak, she is fluent in Czech, English, and German languages. She can also speak a bit of Croatian and Italian.
  5. She is a trained classical pianist.
