DK Metcalf Facts
- During his freshman year (2016) at the University of Mississippi, where he played for the Ole Miss Rebels, DK suffered a season-ending foot injury after just 2 games. He was then granted a redshirt which meant that he could play the 2017 season as a freshman as well.
- At the end of the 2018 season, he decided to forego his last 2 years of college football. He ended his college career with 67 receptions for 1,228 yards and 14 touchdowns, in 21 games.
- At his first professional NFL game, in 2019 for the Seattle Seahawks, he made 4 receptions for 89 receiving yards. It set a franchise record for most total receiving yards for a player on debut. The previous record of 86 yards was held by Hall of Famer Steve Largent.
- In the 2019 season’s wild-card round of the playoffs, he held 7 catches for 160 yards and scored a touchdown. This performance set a new NFL record for ‘Most Receiving Yards by a Rookie in a Playoff Game’.
- During a 2019 NFL game, ESPN announcer Joe Tessitore mistakenly called him Decaf. After the incident, DK partnered with Volcanica Coffee and the company began selling 16-ounce coffee bags labeled ‘Decaf Metcalf’. A share of the sales was donated to Prison Fellowship, a charitable organization that DK has been long associated with.
