John Lloyd Cruz Facts
- He had been discovered in his mid-teens by a talent scout in a mall. He was hanging out there with his friends after they had gone to watch the 1996 family fantasy adventure film titled Magic Temple. Although initially hesitant to join the entertainment industry, he had decided to do so to help his family out financially as his father’s marble business was not doing too well.
- In April 2009, in a poll conducted by Summit Media’s YES! magazine, he had been voted as the 3rd most powerful celebrity in The Philippines.
- In late 2017, after his controversial relationship with actress, model, and business heiress Ellen Adarna, he had taken an indefinite break from his acting career. He had made a return to the entertainment industry in 2019, after the end of his relationship, but had only featured in a few TV commercials instead of taking up major roles in films and TV shows.
- At the 15th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), he was one among 3 actors chosen to be honored with the ‘Star Asia’ award. He became the first Filipino actor as well as the first Southeast Asian actor to receive the honor.
