Kevin-Prince Boateng Facts

  1. Kevin-Prince had first come into the spotlight in July 2006 when he had won the ‘Gold’ medal in the under-19 category at the Fritz Walter Awards, a series of annual awards presented by the German Football Association to youth soccer players in Germany.
  2. In May 2010, representing Portsmouth F.C., against Chelsea F.C., in the final of the FA Cup, he had a penalty kick saved in the 54th minute, just 4 minutes before Didier Drogba scored for Chelsea F.C. That turned out to be the only goal scored in the game. This was not the end of Kevin-Prince’s woes in this match though as his horrible foul on German superstar Michael Ballack would rule him out of the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup. He apologized to Ballack personally and profusely for the tackle.
  3. In October 2011, representing A.C. Milan, in a match against U.S. Lecce, he came on as a half-time substitute and scored 3 goals in just 14 minutes. His team, 3–0 down at half-time, went on to win the game 4–3. This made him just the 2nd player in the history of Serie A (a professional league competition for football clubs located at the top of the Italian football league system) to score a hat-trick after coming on as a substitute.
  4. In January 2013, while representing A.C. Milan in a mid-season friendly, he and several other teammates were the targets of racist chanting from a section of the opponent team’s crowd. Kevin-Prince reacted by kicking the ball into the stands before leaving the pitch. The match was subsequently abandoned.
  5. In February 2013, soon after that incident, he was appointed as the first global ambassador for the FIFA anti-discrimination task force. The following month, he presented to the FIFA president, his first phase of solutions to ending global racism in soccer. In March 2013, he was also named the United Nations ambassador for anti-racism.
  6. In June 2014, midway through the FIFA World Cup, he was sent home and suspended from the Ghana squad after he was alleged to have verbally abused former manager James Kwesi Appiah during a team meeting. He hit back at the Ghana Football Association, describing their organization during the tournament as ‘amateurish’. This incident pretty much ended his international career with Ghana.
  7. In January 2019, when he joined FC Barcelona on loan, he had become the first Ghanaian ever to represent the Spanish giants.
  8. A polyglot, he speaks Turkish, German, English, and Italian. He also understands French and Arabic.
  9. He is a keen singer and dancer and had performed a dance routine involving a moonwalk for a packed-out San Siro stadium of 88,000 spectators to celebrate A.C. Milan‘s triumph in the 2010–11 season of the Serie A.
  10. In August 2018, he released a rap song titled King under the alias PRIN$$ Boateng on the World Star Hip Hop channel. His 2nd single, titled Bella Vita, was released in July 2019.
