- In 2004, Premiere Magazine ranked his performance as Charles Foster Kane in Citizen Kane (1941) at #12 on its list of ‘The 100 Greatest Movie Characters of All Time’.
- The Star Wars director George Lucas wanted Orson to voice the character of Darth Vader in the first film, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977). However, Welles turned down the offer as he considered his voice to be far too familiar.
- He died 2 hours after appearing on The Merv Griffin Show on October 10, 1985. He reportedly had a heart attack while working on his typewriter situated in his lap.
