Robert Finke is an American swimmer who specializes in distance freestyle and individual medley swimming events and had won the ‘Gold’ medal in the 800 m freestyle and the 1500 m freestyle swimming events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. At the 2021 Greensboro NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Championships, representing the Florida Gators, he had won the ‘Gold’ medal in both the 1500-yard freestyle and the 400-yard medley events. Before joining the University of Florida, he used to compete for the Saint Petersburg Aquatics (SPA) club team, based in Florida.

  1. When he was 14 years old, Robert had broken the 800 m freestyle meet record at the Florida Age Group State Championships (FLAGS), clocking a time of 8:25.20. He had also created a new 1500 m freestyle meet record, with a time of 15:56.82, shaving a good 15 seconds off the previous record. Aged 18, he had won the USA Swimming Open Water Junior Nationals title.
  2. During his high school stint, he had become a Team USA World Championship qualifier at FINA (Fédération Internationale de Natation) in 2017, and a member of the USA Swimming national team. At the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships, he had stood 2nd in the 1500 m freestyle event, with a time of 14:55.34. He then went on to clock the 3rd-fastest time ever in the 1500 m freestyle event at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, recording 14:48.79.
  3. He was also a 2-time NISCA (National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association) ‘All-American’ and a 2-time USA Swimming Scholastic ‘All-American’. Ending his high school career, he was ranked the number 18-ranked recruit overall.
  4. During his time at the University of Florida, he had been named in the 2019 All-SEC (Southeastern Conference) ‘First-Team’, the 2019 SEC ‘All-Freshman team’, the 2020 All-SEC ‘First Team’, the 2020 SEC ‘Academic Honor Roll’. He was also the 2019 SEC Champion (1650-yard freestyle and 400-yard individual medley events), the 2019 Co-SEC ‘Freshmen Swimmer of the Year’, and the 2020 SEC Champion (1650-yard freestyle event).
  5. In his first-ever Olympic event, the 800 m freestyle at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he had won the ‘Gold’ medal by setting a new American record with a time of 7:41.87. He had also become the first American man to win a ‘Gold’ medal in the 1500 m freestyle swimming event since the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
