Steve McQueen was an American actor and producer who established himself as a top box-office draw in the 1960s and 1970s. Nicknamed the “King of Cool”, he became the highest-paid movie star in the world in 1974 and was nominated for an Academy Award for “Best Actor” for his role as Jake Holman in the 1966 epic war film The Sand Pebbles.
