Sticky Fingaz is an American rapper, record producer, film writer and editor, actor, and television director. He is well known for being a member of Onyx, a rap group which includes other male rappers including his cousin, Fredro Starr. He joined the group so he could sign to JMJ Records. The owner of JMJ Records only agreed to sign Sticky Fingaz as long as he agreed to be a member of the Onyx group. While in the group, he became quite popular for having strong energy and a unique hoarse voice. Eventually, he became the leader of the group and released few albums with them before going on to begin on his own.

Sticky Fingaz is also well known for his roles on television, most particularly for his lead role as Blade in Blade, a television series where he was the hybrid human and vampire hunter. He made his acting debut in 1993 by playing a role in the movie Strapped. He made other theatrical film appearances and even had feature film credits. His role as Tyrone in the movie Next Friday also made him very popular. He didn’t make his television debut till 1995 when he played in New York Undercover and Nash Bridges. He has also written, produced, and directed movies. The two movies he has directed, Caught On Tape, and A Day in the Life are in the rap opera genre and they were done through his production company, Major Independents and released by Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

In 2001, Sticky Fingaz released his first solo album, Black Trash: The Autobiography of Kirk Jones. The album talked about the life of Kirk Jones as a story from being released from prison till he died. The story was fictionalized.

  2. Sticky Fingaz is very close to his cousin, Fredro Starr. He went to live with him in South Jamaica, Queens when he was 16 years old. They both became members of the rap group, Onyx and once appeared in the same movie, Clockers in 1995.
  3. He joined the group, Oynx in 1992 and released up to 3 very popular albums with them before going on to start his own career. Whenever he is not acting, he still goes over to the group and sings with them, hoping to produce an album that is better received than the ones they’ve done previously.
  4. Sticky Fingaz is a good friend of Method Man, and they both appeared in the 2000 movie Boricua’s Bond.
  5. Most of the time, he’s usually working with Omar Epps, Method Man, Michelle Phillips, Redman, and Fredro Starr.
  6. Sticky Fingaz was once a member of a street gang when he was young. They were known as “Lo-Lifes”. He got his name “Sticky Fingaz” because he and his friends usually engaged in petty theft.
  7. When he was a child, Sticky Fingaz wanted to be a disc jockey (DJ).
  8. His mother sent him to a school for art and design, hoping he would begin to develop his natural talent for drawing. Apparently, his life didn’t head in that direction.
  9. In 2001, Sticky Fingaz finally started his solo career and released his solo debut album. The album which talked about a fictional life of himself after being released from prison till death was a critical success, but it was expected to have done better because the album featured other popular artists such as Eminem, Redman, Canibus, and Raekwon.
  10. His cousin, Fredro Starr featured on his second album Decade: “…but wait it gets worse” in 2003. The album didn’t do as good as his debut album and wasn’t liked by critics.
  11. In the 1994 Soul Train Music Awards, the album Bacdafucup which was released by Onyx was nominated and won the “Best Rap Album” award. The album was also nominated for the American Music Awards of 1994 in the “Rap/Hip Hop New Artist” category but never won it.

  13. Fingaz has also given his voice in a video game titled Def Jam: Fight for NY. He was one of the antagonists in the game. He appeared in the sequel of the game Def Jam: Icon, as ‘Wink’.
