The D.O.C. Facts

  1. The D.O.C. had started his career in the music industry as a teenager when he had become a member of the hip-hop trio Fila Fresh Crew that had originated in Dallas. During this time, he used to perform under the stage name ‘Doc-T’.
  2. The group had disbanded in 1988 after which he had moved to Los Angeles to continue his career. It was there that he had started using the stage name ‘The D.O.C.’
  3. In late 1989, he was involved in a serious car crash that had resulted in the crushing of his larynx which had permanently changed his voice. His voice was reported to be 70% recovered by 2009 and fully recovered by 2015.
  4. The name of his 2nd studio album, tilted Helter Skelter (1996), was a reference to American criminal Charles Manson’s idea that the iconic English rock band The Beatles‘ 1968 song Helter Skelter was a coded prophecy of an apocalyptic war in which racist and non-racist white people would be maneuvered into virtually exterminating each other over the historical treatment of black people.
