- She comes from a political family.
- On October 18, 2012, Y. S. Sharmila commenced a 3,000 km walkathon (1,900 mi) at Idupulapaya in the Kadapa district and completed it on August 4, 2013, in Ichchapuram, touring 14 districts as part of the event.
- She undertook an 11-day bus Yatra across Andhra Pradesh in branded buses with a “Bye Bye Babu” timer clock (suggesting that it was time for the then Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu) prior to the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election. She went on to cover 1,553 km (965 mi) and 39 public addresses during the “Praja Theerpu – Bye Bye Babu” campaign and also handed out more than 20,000 autographed caps.
- Y. S. Sharmila revealed in February 2021 that she had political differences with her brother Jagan Mohan Reddy and also claimed there was no presence of the party in the state of Telangana.
- It was announced on April 9, 2021, that she would launch a new political party in Telangana on July 8, 2021, the birthday of her late father. Y. S. Sharmila also began campaigning against the incumbent Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government. Subsequently, the formation of the YSR Telangana Party was announced by her on July 8, 2021.
- It was revealed in December 2023 that Y. S. Sharmila’s party would not be participating in the Telangana Legislative Assembly election. She went on to acknowledge the electoral potential for the Indian National Congress party and highlighted that their aim was not to undermine the Congress but rather to pledge support if the Congress were to assume power.
- The YSR Telangana Party was merged with the Indian National Congress on January 4, 2024, and she then joined the INC party in New Delhi in the presence of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi.
