Aimee Mann is an American singer-songwriter who landed a career in music in the 1980s after joining the band ‘Til Tuesday as the bassist and vocalist. During her time with the band, she was the one who wrote one of their best top 10 singles titled Voices Carry. After debuting her solo album titled Whatever in 1993, Mann started to release more albums and began to record songs of her own in 1999 including songs for the soundtrack of the movie Magnolia which was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The soundtrack featuring one of her hit songs Save Me earned her Academy Award and Grammy Award nominations. She decided to exit from the band to pursue a solo career, which eventually led the group to disband in 1990. Given her previous experience, Mann had quite a good start as a soloist. She started working on her first solo albums alongside producer and former bandmate Jon Brion and in 1995, she released her second album I’m with Stupid under Geffen Records, which also turned to be a successful release after it garnered positive reviews from the public. From 2000 to 2010, Mann released an array of successful albums and singles but had also participated in many music events including the 9th Annual Independent Music Awards in 2010 where she was one of the panel judges to promote independent musicians.

In 2012, she released an album titled Charmer featuring a duet with James Mercer of The Shins. The title track from the album featured a music video that was directed by The Best Show’s Tom Scharpling and another single called Labrador featured actor Jon Hamm. She later worked in a collaborative project called #BOTH with musician Ted Leo and had shows in Los Angeles and San Francisco on February 2013. In October 2016, she released her new song called Can’t You Tell which was originally part of the 30 Days 30 Songs, a campaign where musicians had put out previously unreleased music in protest of the then-presidential candidate, Donald Trump. She announced her 9th solo album Mental Illness in January 2017 alongside its lead track Goose Snow Cone which was also released on the same day the announcement was made. In September of the same year, she contributed a song titled Everbody Bleeds for the first season, episode 2 of Netflix’s original series Big Mouth.
