Carlos Stephens Facts
- He had started his career in the early 1990s by producing music for some local groups in and around Gretna, the 2nd-largest city in the state of Louisiana. This was the phase that had helped him develop his skills and production methods tremendously.
- In 1994, he had wrapped up his final outside productions and had joined Beats by the Pound, an in-house production team of the record label No Limit Records. His first major production for the label was on rapper Silkk the Shocker‘s debut studio album, titled The Shocker, in 1996.
- Later that year, with the permission of Master P, the founder of No Limit Records, he had become the only in-house producer with that label to establish distribution outside No Limit Records. This had allowed him to release his first artists, Skull Duggery and The Ghetto Commission, in 1998.
- The same year, he was voted as one of ‘Hip-Hop’s 30 Most Powerful People’ by The Source, the world’s longest-running rap periodical and an American hip hop and entertainment website, and a magazine that publishes annually or semiannually.
- In 1999, his other fellow producers at Beats By The Pound had left No Limit Records, leaving Carlos as the only key producer with the record label. However, he still managed to oversee the majority of the next 5 years of production there, helping release multiple ‘Gold’ and ‘Platinum’ certified albums.
- In 2000, he had contributed to the production of the soundtrack for the HBO drama TV series Oz.
- His biggest commercial success came in 2001 with rapper Lil Romeo‘s debut single titled My Baby. The song had been certified ‘Platinum’Â and had also stayed number 1 on the Billboard (an American music and entertainment magazine) charts for 10 weeks in a row. The track was also the ‘Billboard Single of the Year’ for 2001.
