  1. Danny aspired to be a priest while growing up, in accordance with his mother’s wishes. He also served as an altar boy for 8 years and planned to join a seminary at the age of 14 but was dissuaded by his local priest.
  2. Danny’s friendship with frequent collaborator Ewan McGregor was strained after Ewan was booted out of his Hollywood production The Beach (2000) in favor of the A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio. However, after an acrimonious decade, the actor and director buried the hatchet for good in 2009.
  3. His classic film Trainspotting was included in the list of the “Top 100 British Films of the 20th Century” at #10 by the British Film Institute.
  4. Danny declined the offer to be knighted during the New Year Honours in 2013.
  5. In 2014, Danny became a patron of the contemporary arts center called HOME in Manchester.
  6. He served as an artistic director for the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics held in London. The ceremony titled Isles of Wonder became a huge success and was praised for representing the British culture in all its glory.
  7. Danny was offered the directorial duties of Alien Resurrection (1997). But he turned down the offer, instead directing the commercially unsuccessful romantic comedy A Life Less Ordinary (1997).
