- She was born and brought up in Agartala, Tripura.
- Dipa was just 6 years old when she developed an interest in gymnastics. She has since been coached by Soma Nandi & Bishweshwar Nandi.
- At the start of her gymnastics training, Dipa found it difficult as she was flat-footed. However, through rigorous training and practice, she developed an arch in her feet.
- On August 10, 2016, Dipa became the first Indian female gymnast to qualify for the final vault event at the Olympics during the 2016 Olympic Test Event. Also, she is the 5th woman in gymnastics history to successfully land the Produnova vault.
- In 2017, Dipa suffered a knee injury while practicing for the trials of the 2017 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Hence, she had to sit out for the latter half of the year. The same year, Dipa also underwent corrective surgery for tearing her anterior cruciate ligament in April.
- Dipa was presented with the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2017, which is the fourth highest Indian national honor.
- As of February 2023, Dipa had been getting sponsorship by GoSports Foundation under the Rahul Dravid Athlete Mentorship Programme.
- In February 2023, the International Testing Agency confirmed that Dipa had been serving a 21-month suspension as she had tested positive for banned substances. Her suspension was to end in mid-July 2023.
