Jarrett Hurd Facts

  1. Jarrett had recorded 19 successive wins in his professional career by November 2016 before his first shot at a professional title came in abrupt circumstances. In January 2017, it was announced that his next fight would be an IBF title eliminator for the right to fight Jermall Charlo. However, Jermall vacated the title and Jarrett’s fight was elevated to be for the vacant title, against Tony Harrison. Jarrett clinched the title in February 2017.
  2. When he defeated Erislandy Lara in April 2018 to retain his IBF light middleweight title and unify it with the WBA (Super) and IBO light middleweight titles, Jarrett became just the 7th unified world title holder in light-middleweight history, joining the elite club of Terry Norris, Félix Trinidad, Oscar De La Hoya, Winky Wright, Floyd Mayweather, Jr., and Canelo Álvarez.
  3. That bout itself was a closely contested affair with Jarrett winning a 12-round split decision in what was a potential ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate. Erislandy’s right eye was cut at the start of round 12 and he would state after the fight that the could not see very well in that defining final round. Due to the margins being very narrow in this fight, the WBA had ordered a direct rematch. However, Jarrett had rejected it by stating that he wanted to move on to bigger fights to try and become the undisputed light middleweight champion of the world.
  4. For his next fight, against British boxer Jason Welborn, Jarrett would earn his first-ever USD 1 million purse. He went on to retain all 3 of the aforementioned titles in what was the 23rd successive win (with 0 defeats) of his professional career.
