Kairi Sane Facts

  1. She is an ultimate sportsperson and holds a considerable sports background. Sane does yachting and has competed in intercollegiate competitions and national competitions, and world championships.
  2. After completing her college education, she went on to pursue a career in acting. She has performed in theatres including one show where she performed as a professional wrestling villain.
  3. She was seen performing on one of her theatre shows by Fuka Kakimoto, the general manager of the World Wonder Ring Stardom promotion who invited her to attend one of their events. There, she was quickly drawn into professional wrestling after she fell in love with the idea of acting with sports. Shortly after, she decided to pursue a career in professional wrestling.
  4. In 2011, she began training with Stardom. On November 14, 2011, she finished her pro-test and graduated alongside Act Yasukawa, Natsumi Showzuki, and Yuuri Haruka as part of Stardom’s 3rd class of trainees.
  5. On January 7, 2012, Sane made her Stardom debut under the ring name Kairi Hojo. At that time, she made use of her yachting background and was then dubbed as the “Pirate Princess”.
  6. On April 29, 2013, she won her first title at Ryōgoku Cinderella where she and Showzuki were dubbed as “Ho-Show Tennyo” and conquered Hailey Hatred and Kyoko Kimura in the Goddes of Stardom Championship.
  7. In October 2016, she received an offer from WWE and started the following year. In March 2017, Sane officially signed a three-year contract with WWE reportedly amounting to $60,000 per year, which appeared to be way lesser than the amount she was earning in Japan.
  8. She was officially introduced as Kairi Sane through a video at a WWE house show in Tokyo, Japan, on June 30, 2017. At that time, she was introduced to WWE’s developmental division NXT and to the Mae Young Classic tournament.
  9. On July 13, 2017, she made her WWE debut in a winning match against Tessa Blanchard. It was then followed another array of victories after she defeated Bianca Belair in the 2nd round, Dakota Kai in the quarterfinals, and Toni Storm in the semifinals.
  10. She made her television debut on NXT in October 2017 during which she defeated Aliyah.
  11. Sane participated in her first women’s Royal Rumble match on January 28, 2018, during which she entered at #6 and lasted for about 5 minutes before she got eliminated by Dana Brooke.
