- While growing up, she listened to hard rock bands like AC/DC and Led Zeppelin.
- Kim learned to play Roger Miller’s 1965 song King of the Road on acoustic guitar at the age of 11.
- Her other passion was to become a cellular biologist. Prior to making her career in music, Kim worked in that role at a hospital laboratory and biochemical lab. During this time, she tested positive for hepatitis as she wasn’t very careful while working with blood, according to her own admission.
- Kim and her sister Kelley were huge fans of the supernatural series Buffy the Vampire Slayer starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. They got the opportunity to perform live on the show’s 6th episode from the 7th season titled ‘Him’ with their bandmates from The Breeders.
- She joined the newly reunited Pixies with her former bandmates Black Francis, Joey Santiago, and David Lovering in 2004.
