Latto is an American rapper who had first come into the spotlight in 2016 when she had won the first season of the reality TV series The Rap Game. She had entered the competition under the stage name Miss Mulatto. Latto had also won the ‘Youth Hip Hop/R&B Award’ at the Georgia Music Awards that year. She has gone on to release the solo studio album Queen of Da Souf (2020) and the mixtapes Miss Mulatto (2016), Latto Let ‘Em Know (2017), and Mulatto (2018). Latto has also published EPs titled Time and Pressure (2017), Big Latto (2019), and Hit the Latto (2019). She had gained mainstream recognition with the release of her 2019 singe titled B*tch from da Souf which had eventually led to a contract with RCA Records. She was included in the 2020 ‘XXL Freshman Class’, an annual list of ’10 Artists to Watch’ who are all featured on the cover of XXL, an American hip hop magazine.

1. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Latto’s family had moved to the state of Georgia when she was 2 years old. She was primarily raised in Clayton County thereafter.
2. Born to a black father and white mother, she was often bullied at school by kids who would taunt her for being ‘light-skinned’. This unfair treatment had later inspired her to use the stage name ‘Miss Mulatto’ when she had started her rapping career, as ‘mulatto’ is the term that is often used to refer to people of mixed African and European ancestry.
3. Before developing an interest in music, she was a drag racing enthusiast. It was at the age of 10 that she had decided that she would become a rapper. It was around this time that she had started penning her own songs and rhymes.
