Letitia Wright Facts
- Letitia was inspired to become an actress after watching Keke Palmer’s role in the film Akeelah and the Bee (2006).
- Had her acting career not taken off, she would have majored in psychology and pursued a career in that field.
- Moving to cold and detached London where everybody kept to themselves, coming from the intimate, friendly community in Guyana, Letitia experienced a massive culture shock. To fit in, she picked up the London accent fast by practicing it in front of the mirror every day.
- Films became Letitia’s primary source of education of the local British culture and she enacted several scenes at home for hours.
- She credits a lot of her success to Femi Oguns, the founder of Identity School of Acting. Letitia shared that he challenged stereotypes on her behalf. He often booked her to test for Caucasian roles and got her jobs that she normally would not audition for.
- After 2011, for nearly a year, she booked no roles and had to take up a job in the hospitality industry to support herself financially.
- At the age of 20, the obsession with getting a breakthrough in acting put Letitia in depression. Her actor friend Malachi Kirby took her to an actors’ Bible study at the Anchor of Hope church in East London which initiated her emotional healing.
- Letitia regularly prays for mental wellness and claims to be in a serious relationship with Jesus. As such she does not feel comfortable wearing sexy or revealing clothes and is completely against nudity in acting roles.
- Her character Shuri in Black Panther (2018) is the most intelligent character in Marvel Universe and is deemed brighter than even Tony Stark.
- She stated that her role in Urban Hymn (2015) of a young offender was emotionally draining and was one of the most challenging roles she ever signed up for.
- Urban Hymn director Michael Caton-Jones who directed Leonardo DiCaprio in his third movie which had him in the main role for the first time was extremely impressed by Letitia’s acting prowess. He stated that Letitia is as talented as Leonardo.
- Right before filming Black Panther, Letitia wrapped Steven Spielberg’s production and was completely smitten by the famous director-producer’s humility despite many years of acclaim in Hollywood.
- After wrapping Black Panther (2018), Letitia’s first major purchase was to gift herself a vacation to Saint Lucia in the Caribbean Island.
- When not filming, the actress likes skateboarding and playing video games. Signing any movie contract forbids her from skateboarding because actors are not allowed to indulge in activities that have the potential to cause serious injury.
- Letitia is a talented freestyle rapper as well and frequently got into intense rap battles with fellow co-star Lupita Nyong’o on the sets of Black Panther. Her rap name is MC Baby Underbite.
- The British Academy Film Awards deemed her as one of the 18 breakthrough Brits in 2015.
- In December 2020, Letitia deleted her Instagram and Twitter accounts after getting an adverse reaction from the fans. Fans were upset about the fact that Letitia questioned if we should take the upcoming coronavirus vaccine.
- In August 2021, Letitia was hospitalized after sustaining minor injuries while filming a stunt on the set of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
- During the 2022 British Independent Film Awards, Letitia won the award for “Best Joint Lead Performance” along with Tamara Lawrance for The Silent Twins.

Typical African-American nose? She’s not even African American. All Black people are not African-American.
You mean Black or African nose? Just because she wears her hair short doesn’t make her look androgynous. You can most definitely tell she is a female. She is very petite and slim. She is also very pretty. Whoever did her profile sounds white-washed and stereo typical. Do you also write typical thin White lips, or typical pointy White nose on other profiles. Check yourself. You’re ridiculous.
Hello Alma
Our intention behind using the word typical African-American nose was simply to convey she has a signature feature of people of that region even though her immediate roots are from South America. Yes, that was a very stereotypical description. But, we use stereotypes simply for the convenience of description. The world is a melting pot of races now and if any celebrity has a signature feature that is commonly associated with people of a particular race, we don’t think it is offensive to mention it because we love and respect the authenticity of all artists and celebrities we write about.
We are definitely not trying to promote artists of one race over the other. Had that been the case, Healthy Celeb would have simply written about one race. Yes, we do write thin lips and sharp nose if any Caucasian celebrity has particularly thin lips or pointy nose. Since their skin has a disposition towards getting wrinkles, we also mention their laugh lines or worry lines. Don’t bash us for age shaming next. In fact, Caucasian actors who wear their wrinkles with confidence should be lauded and celebrated for being real.
Healthy Celeb is not obliged to be politically correct because what we write is NOT malicious and will not reduce the success or influence of the celebrity in any way. The aim is to curate as much background information as possible about upcoming or successful talented artists so that their fans get a comprehensive glimpse of where they come from.
The word Androgynous was used by a journalist to describe Letitia in a published interview which stood out to the person who wrote her profile. The actress has also shown a preference for slightly boyish dressing style by frequently wearing sneakers, high collar jackets, and blazers which is another distinctive preference of the actress that only makes her more unique. You misunderstood if you think we were implying the actress is not pretty. She is absolutely gorgeous and talented which is why we wrote her profile!
That indeed was very well said. I stumbled across these comments and I appreciate your response. Though I must say I was not offended at all by your profile page on Letitia Wright. In fact, it was very interesting and different. I was on my way to bed but I was too intrigued to just stop reading. Thanks!
