  1. Nikhil dropped out of school in the early 2000s. A few months later, he started working at a call center while engaging in equity trading as a side hustle.
  2. In 2006, he became a sub-broker and, along with his older brother Nithin, launched a brokerage firm called Kamath & Associates.
  3. In 2010, the duo co-founded a retail stock trading platform called Zerodha that provides brokerage services for dealing in stocks, currencies, and commodities. The name Zerodha means ‘zero barrier’ – it combines the English word ‘zero’ with the Sanskrit word ‘rodha’ which loosely translates to barrier/obstacle.
  4. In 2016, Nikhil was included in Forbes India magazine’s ‘30 Under 30’ list relating to young entrepreneurs. About 2 years later, he was featured in the same magazine’s inaugural ‘Tycoons Of Tomorrow’ list that recognized 22 young achievers in the fields of business, acting, and sports.
