Wolf Blitzer is a German-born American journalist, television news anchor, and author who started working as a CNN reporter in 1990. He has also served as one of the principal anchors at CNN as well as served as the network’s lead political anchor until 2021. Moreover, he started hosting CNN’s daily newscast The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer in 2005.   1. He was born to a Polish Jewish refugee couple from German-occupied Poland who survived the Auschwitz concentration camp.
  2. Wolf’s grandparents, two uncles, and two aunts on his father’s side were all murdered at the Auschwitz concentration camp while his maternal grandparents were rounded up in Poland and sent to a labor camp to make ammunition for the German war effort and they eventually died of typhoid fever.
  3. Under the provisions of the 1948 Displaced Persons Act, his family immigrated to the United States and he spent his childhood years growing up in Buffalo, New York.
  4. His first name “Wolf” comes from the name of his maternal grandfather while his middle name “Isaac” comes from the name of his paternal grandfather.
  5. Along with Jimmy Carter, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, Henry Kissinger, Andre Azoulay, Leon Charney, and Zbigniew Brzezinski, Wolf Blitzer co-starred in the documentary film Back Door Channels: The Price of Peace in 2009.
