Yulia Navalnaya is a Russian economist and political figure who is best known as the widow of Alexei Navalny, a prominent Russian politician, lawyer, and anti-corruption activist. In 2000, she and her husband had joined Yabloko, a Russian social-liberal political party. She left it in May 2011. Thereafter, as Alexei’s popularity rose, Yulia became his assistant and a close confidante. In the late 2010s, as Alexei became embroiled in legal cases, many of which seemed like acts of vendetta, she rose in political stature and began to be looked at as someone who could lead the entire Russian opposition, on her husband’s behalf. After her husband’s death in February 2024, due to alleged poisoning, while serving a prison sentence, Yulia published a video stating that she planned to build on Alexei’s political legacy and requested the Russian people to rally around her.
