Alexa Grasso Facts

  1. Alexa began her professional mixed martial arts career in December 2012 and compiled a 4-0 win-loss record by August 2014, competing in promotions based out of Mexico.
  2. After that, she signed up with Invicta FC, an American professional mixed martial arts promotion dedicated to women’s mixed martial arts, competing in her first bout there in September 2014.
  3. By July 2016, Alexa had won all 4 of her bouts there, winning a ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus award in her penultimate bout with the promotion. She also won a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus award in her last fight there.
  4. Between November 2016 and September 2019, in her early years in the UFC, she displayed inconsistent form and amassed a 3-3 win-loss record. In August 2017, in the 3rd of those 6 matches, Alexa’s first fight after losing the first professional mixed martial arts bout of her career (in February 2017), she was scheduled to face Randa Markos at UFC Fight Night: Pettis vs. Moreno.
  5. In the build-up to that bout, Alexa was suffering from a urinary tract infection and was medically advised to stop cutting weight. She consequently weighed 3 pounds over the strawweight limit. She was fined 20% of her purse that went to Randa. The bout proceeded at a catchweight and Alexa went on to win it via split decision.
  6. In September 2019, she won her first ‘UFC Fight of the Night’ bonus award even as she lost to Carla Esparza by a majority decision. It was the 3rd defeat of her professional mixed martial arts career.
  7. Her next bout was scheduled for January 2020, against Cláudia Gadelha, at UFC 246. However, at the weigh-ins, Alexa was found 5.5 pounds over the non-title strawweight limit. The NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission), the regulatory body for all contests and exhibitions of unarmed combat within the state of Nevada, canceled the fight because competitors are not allowed to compete if the weight difference between them is more than 3 pounds.
  8. Alexa apologized for missing weight and declared that she would henceforth be competing in the flyweight division. She made her flyweight debut in August 2020 and won that bout via unanimous decision. The move to switch to flyweight seemed to work wonders for her career as she went on to win her next 3 bouts as well – in February 2021, March 2022, and October 2022.
