The back story of Hulk’s first championship win was that the original champion Bob Backlund had refused to give up his title to Hogan and had insisted that he would lose his title only to someone who had a legitimate wrestling background. So, the promotion had to first make the title transfer to The Iron Sheik, so that Hogan could win it from him.
