  1. He captained his cricket team to a World Cup victory in 1992, marking the first time that Pakistan lifted the World Cup trophy.
  2. Khan landed himself in hot water after calling the Al Qaeda founder and mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, Osama bin Laden a ‘martyr’.
  3. In 1994, he founded the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in Lahore, in honor of his late mother who had passed away from cancer.
  4. As a politician, he has drawn parallels to the controversial American President Donald Trump. Khan, in true Trumpian fashion, labeled all his opposition leaders as corrupt and claimed that he alone could save Pakistan.
  5. He was honored with Pakistan’s second-highest civilian award, the Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 1992.
  6. In 2022, Khan was found guilty of unlawfully selling state gifts that were given to him and his family during his time as prime minister. On August 5, 2023, the Islamabad trial court found him guilty of corrupt practices and sentenced him to 3 years in prison. Furthermore, he was banned from holding political office for the next 5 years. However, his sentence was suspended by the Islamabad High Court on August 29, 2023.
  7. In April 2022, he became the country’s first prime minister to be removed from office through a no-confidence motion.
  8. He was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment in January 2024 in the cipher case.
  9. In January 2024, he also received 14 years of jail term in the Toshakhana gifts case. His wife Bushra Bibi also received the same punishment. Both have also been fined PKR 787 million each.
