  1. Two of his films were selected to be included in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being ‘culturally, historically or aesthetically’ significant: Amadeus (1984) and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986).
  2. In 1984, Jones received a Golden Globe award nomination in the ‘Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture’ category for his performance as Emperor Joseph II in Amadeus (1984). Moreover, he and the entire cast of Deadwood received a Screen Actors Guild award nomination for ‘Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series’ in 2007.
  3. In 2002, he was arrested for possession of child po**ography and soliciting a 14-year-old boy to produce se**ually explicit images between September 2000 and May 2001. Jones paid the minor to pose n*de on several occasions and in different costumes, including a cowboy hat, in Native American garb, and with stuffed animals. He pleaded not guilty to the possession charge and no contest to the charge of soliciting a minor. He was given 5 five years’ probation, advised mandatory counseling, and registered as a s*x offender. As of 2021, Jones was listed on the California Department of Justice national s*x offender database. He was arrested twice for not updating his s*x offender status; first in Florida in 2004 and again in California in 2012.
  4. He and Justin Bieber were pictured together in an Instagram post, shared by Bieber on July 23, 2016, in which the two were seen spoofing Jones’ character Edward R. Rooney from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986). The post got more than 1.5 million likes over the next several days, but it was ultimately taken down due to concerns about Jones’ criminal record.
