Jon Lovitz Facts

  1. He appeared twice in season 1 and season 9 of the world-renowned sitcom, Friends. During his first appearance in the episode The One With The St*ned Guy, he played Phoebe’s (played by Lisa Kudrow) massage client Steve, who is a successful restaurant owner with a drug problem and interviews Monica Geller (played by Courteney Cox) for a job. He returned to the show in the season 9 episode The One With The Blind Dates wherein he reveals to his date Rachel Green (played by Jennifer Aniston) that, over the years, he lost his restaurant to drug addiction and was down on his luck due to his impotence, weight gain, and low self-esteem.
  2. Curiously enough, Jon was friends with Friends alum Lisa Kudrow’s brother David back in college and went backpacking with him across Europe and Israel in 1978.
  3. He and Dana Carvey were the original choice to play Detective Sergeant Marcus Burnett and Detective Sergeant Mike Lowrey respectively in Michael Bay’s hit film, Bad Boys (1995). However, the director later confessed that it would have likely ruined their careers.
  4. Jon and the beloved comedian Robin Williams were born on the same date 6 years apart as Williams was born on July 21, 1951.
  5. Arguably, his most memorable SNL character was Tommy Flanagan, The Pathological Liar, whose catchphrase was an old Humphrey Bogart line, “Yeah! That’s the ticket!” Additionally, he also delivered other impressive characters and impersonations like the Annoying Man, David Crosby, Hanukkah Harry, Michael Dukakis, Harvey Fierstein, Master Thespian, Mephistopheles, Tonto, etc.
  6. Among Jon’s famous Hollywood friends are Adam Sandler, Sean Penn, Penny Marshall, and the late Phil Hartman, whom he lovingly described as “the big brother I always wanted.”
