- He is the oldest member of Maroon 5 with a gap of around 8 or 9 years with the rest of the guys.
- In 2006, he joined Maroon 5 as a replacement for Ryan Dusick, who had to leave the band after suffering from chronic injuries to his wrist and shoulders. Matt had served as the group’s touring drummer from 2004 to 2006.
- He has also played the drums for other bands like Chicago, The B-52’s, Gandhi, and the singer Gavin DeGraw.
