Nate Dogg was an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor who collaborated with a number of artists, such as Warren G, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Kurupt, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Pharoahe Monch, Shade Sheist, Tupac Shakur, Butch Cassidy, Fabolous, Jermaine Dupri, Ludacris, Westside Connection, 50 Cent, Ghostface Killah, and Don Diablo, throughout his lifetime. Starting his musical career as a part of the hip hop trio 213 alongside Warren G and Snoop Dogg, he was later signed by the label, Death Row Records. Nate Dogg is also credited as one of the artists who helped in bringing the G-funk and West Coast hip hop styles into the music scene. Although he had his share of legal troubles, his career flourished tremendously and he was ranked on the Billboard Hot 100 list 16 times for his work as a featured artist. He was also nominated for the Grammy‘s on 4 occasions. Nate Dogg also served as an ammunition specialist in Okinawa, Japan at Camp Schwab with the United States Armed Forces. Unfortunately, he died on March 15, 2011, at the age of 41 due to complications from multiple strokes.

First Album

Nate Dogg released his first studio album titled G-Funk Classics, Vol. 1 & 2 on July 21, 1998, via Breakaway. It was ranked on the 58th spot on the US Billboard 200 chart and reached the 20th spot on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (Billboard) chart.

The album was supposed to be released in 1996 via Death Row Records but that plan did not work due to some legal issues at the label.

He made his first TV show appearance as himself in an episode of the music talk-show, Soul Train, in 1997 alongside artists like Snoop Dogg.

1. His parents got divorced when he was 14 years old and then he moved to Long Beach, California.
2. Nate Dogg’s passion for singing emerged when he was a child and used to sing in the New Hope Baptist Church in Long Beach and Life Line Baptist Church in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
3. After getting enlisted in the Marines as an ammunition specialist, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan at Camp Schwab as part of the Material Readiness Battalion of the 3rd Force Service Support Group which serve as the supplier of ammunition to the majority of the Pacific.
4. In his words, the reason Nate Dogg joined the military was that he “wanted to see if he was a man”. He served for 3 years in the military before getting discharged in 1989.
5. Nate signed a deal with Death Row Records in 1993.
6. He released his first single, “Regulate”, with Warren G in 1994.
7. Nate Dogg shared a close bond with artists Warren G, RBX, Butch Cassidy, Snoop Dogg, and Daz Dillinger.
8. He formed a hip hop trio supergroup named 213 along with his friends and rappers Warren G and Snoop Dogg in 1991. The name of the trio was inspired from Los Angeles’ original telephone area code ‘213’ and they got their first opportunity to record a demo in the back of the famed V.I.P. record store in Long Beach. Soon after, Dr. Dre heard the demo at a bachelor party.
9. He appeared on a celebrity episode of the game show, Weakest Link, in 2002 and made it to the final 3 players before getting eliminated.
10. In 1991, Nate Dogg was charged with the Check Changers robbery and then in 1994, he again got himself in trouble with a charge for the robbery of a San Pedro Taco Bell. He was termed for 11 years of imprisonment but he managed to get acquitted of both the charges.
11. He was convicted of a drug-related offense in Los Angeles County in 1996.

Nate Dogg was arrested on June 17, 2000, by a SWAT team for alleged kidnapping, assaulting, and making terrorist threats to his former girlfriend and also for setting fire to her mother’s car in Lakewood, Los Angeles County. He was later released on a $1 million bail by Dr. Dre after he spent a night in the Twin Towers Correctional Facility. The charges were later dismissed.
13. He was also charged for illegal possession of a firearm by a felon and had to pay a fine of $1,000.
14. On April 12, 2002, he was arrested under firearms-related and drug-related offenses after 2 pistols and 4 ounces of cannabis were found in his tour bus. He was later released on a $3,500 bond.
15. In 2006, he was arrested for misdemeanor aggravated trespassing, telephone harassment, battery assault, dissuading a witness from reporting a crime, and violation of a restraining order.
16. In July 2008, Nate Dogg was arrested for allegedly sending threatening emails to his estranged wife and stalking after allegedly chasing her by a car on Interstate 405 in the previous month.
17. He was nominated for the Grammy‘s 4 times. Unfortunately, he never won one.
