The reputed Forbes magazine has released its annual list of highest paid celebrities of 2015. This annual feature has honored and recognized the leading money earning celebrities who use their persona, skills, marketability and market presence to earn in a year as much as we won’t be able to earn in our entire lives. And, using this highest paid celebrity list, the annual highest paid celebrity couples list is prepared.
Since, they started dating each other almost 15 years ago, Jay-Z and Beyoncé have consistently and constantly maintained their presence in this list. Year after year, they have made their presence felt as a successful and efficient money making enterprise. The rumors and doubts including cheating allegations have remained ever present in Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s relationship, but there is no doubt about their strong market presence and ability to rake moolah year after year.
And, this year, there hasn’t been any change in their money making run. However, they have been dethroned from their number one position by the new young music couple. Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris have made their relationship only couple of months ago. However, its effect is already showing. So, here are the highest paid celebrity couples of 2015.
Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris, $146 million
After playing hide and seek with the media and teasing their fans with the possibility for months, they finally made their relationship official at the Billboard Music Awards on May 17. And, within a space of months, they have quickly ascended the couple power rankings. The pop singer was recently in news for taking on Apple for not paying the singers for using their music during the free trial period of its new streaming service. As we all know, Taylor has immense fan base and huge power clout, which ultimately forced the company to make a U-turn.
Taylor’s huge income for 2014 has been boosted by the immense success of her studio album ‘1989,’ which as of February 2015, 1989 had sold over 8.6 million copies worldwide. However, she had started earning money from the album even before it was released. She banked enormous amounts from her commercial tie-ins with Subway, Keds, Target and Diet Coke, during the promotion of the album.
Whereas, her boyfriend is one of the highest earning DJs in the world. Despite, not releasing any album since 2012, he has banked enormous money by working with the likes of Rihanna, Katy Perry and Ellie Goulding. His main source of income are the numerous gigs, he performs at around the world. From June 2013, he is reported to have performed at more than 125 gigs. He continues to play regularly in Las Vegas where he has a multi-year deal at America’s biggest nightclub, Hakkasan. He also has endorsement deals with Giorgio Armani and Sol Republic headphones.
Beyoncé and Jay Z, $110.5 million
Although, they had to relinquish their number one spot, they still have earned enough to ensure that the slide is of mere one position. The couple, who recently celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary, had a successful year in terms of both commercial earnings and critical acclaim. They were the opening act of the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, where Beyoncé was nominated for six awards and ultimately won three: Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Song for “Drunk in Love”, and Best Surround Sound Album for Beyoncé. They also collaborated this year for their co-headlined On the Run tour, which was the fifth highest grossing excursion of 2014, despite only playing 22 shows in Forbes’ scoring period.
This year, Jay-Z acquired the music streaming service ‘Tidal’ and launched it at an event, where several leading music artists such as Kanye West, Rihanna and Chris Martin were present as well. His other earning streams include revenue brought in by his alcohol brands Armand de Brignac champagne and D’Ussé cognac, an upscale sports bar, 40/40 Club that started in New York City and has since expanded to Atlantic City and Chicago and entertainment company, Roc Nation. Beyoncé isn’t one to be put in shadow. She launched her own fragrance line and endorsements with Pepsi, H&M and others.
Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, $57 million
The each half of this country music power couple brought in $28.5 million. Over the past year, Lambert and Shelton have earned a lot of money for their music along with winning over millions of fans. Shelton had a pretty eventful year as he along with performing 40 concerts all over America also found success as a trainer / judge on the music reality show ‘The Voice,’ where member of his team took second place last season. Reportedly, the Nashville native has been paid around $13 million by the show producers for his contributions.
And, Lambert had the most successful year of her career. For the immense success of her fifth album ‘Platinum,’ she won multiple Academy of Country Music Awards, including Female Vocalist, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year for her hit record, Platinum. She complemented her musical success with non-musical ventures like Red55 Wine, Pink Pistol and Dixie Darlin.
That’s it folks. This year’s list has only three couples. The reason being that the list has been compiled with world’s top earning entertainers on the basis of annual income only. And, there are only three couples where both members make the cut. So, it has to be seen whether the Hollywood can mount any serious competition to the music industry next year. Will Brangelina lead Hollywood’s charge? We will see next year.
