- He was brought up in a family of Buddhist beliefs in Seoul, South Korea.
- Both of his parents are professors.
- He was the 4th member to be chosen to join the boy band TVXQ.
- Shim Chang-min was 14 years old when he was discovered by S.M. Entertainment while playing badminton and singing during gym class. However, at the time, he had no interest in training as a singer but it was his mother who encouraged him to do so as she wanted him to meet singer-songwriter and actress BoA.
- He won the title of “Best Singer” and “Best Artist” award at S.M.Entertainment’s 6th Annual Youth Best Contest.
