Being a member of the popular R&B group, Xscape, which has released several ‘Platinum’ certified albums. Their two studio albums Off the Hook and Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha were especially huge hits and managed to peak at 3rd position on the U.S. Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart.
Her first album with her rap group was Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha, which sold over a million copies. It was released in October 1993 and managed to reach the 17th spot on Billboard 200 charts.
Although she has been performing for about two and half decades, she released her first solo single What the F*ck You Gon Do? in July 2014.
In July 1995, she made her theatrical film debut in the family drama movie, The Street Corner Kids: The Sequel.

Tameka has hired a personal trainer Kory Phillips so as to make sure that she gets the most out of her workouts. In the gym, they give special attention to her midsection. In fact, she loves working on her abs. To preserve her tiny waist, she also uses a waist trainer and wears it for a couple of days for about four to five hours a day.
Her other favorite body part is her legs and for her legs workout, they rely on different variations of squats. Phillips also keeps on varying her workouts to keep them interesting and fun. They have also included boxing in her fitness regime.

- Her music group was discovered by music producer Jermaine Dupri while they were singing at his birthday party in Atlanta. He immediately signed them up to his So So Def Recordings.
- On May 12, 1998, Xscape released its 3rd studio album titled Traces of My Lipstick via So So Def Recordings and Sony Music Entertainment. The album peaked at number #6 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (Billboard) chart and at number #28 on the US Billboard 200 chart as well as was certified ‘Platinum’ by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Later, they were cleared of any charges due to the 10-year statute of limitations as the incident reportedly occurred 16 years ago.
