  1. He was born in a lower-middle-class household.
  2. As an artist, he started his career with painting.
  3. Along with Vidya Sinha, Ashok Kumar, Asrani, Dharmendra, and Hema Malini, Amol Palekar co-starred as a painfully shy young man named Arun Pradeep in the 1976 Hindi-language romantic comedy coming-of-age film Chhoti Si Baat. The film is regarded as one of the best Hindi comedy films of the 1970s.
  4. His role in Chhoti Si Baat got him nominated for a Filmfare Award in the “Best Actor” category in 1977.
  5. Amol Palekar co-starred as Ramprasad Dashrathprasad Sharma/Laxmanprasad “Lucky” Dashrathprasad Sharma in the 1979 Hindi-language comedy film Gol Maal. For this role, he bagged the “Best Actor” award at the 27th Filmfare Awards in 1980.
  6. Before he decided to pursue acting full-time, he was employed at the Bank of India.
  7. He brought to life the character of Madhu Gupta in the 1982 Hindi-language drama film Shriman Shrimati.
