  1. Uwais was discovered by Welsh screenwriter and director Gareth Evans in 2007 while he was making a documentary on silat. They had met at Iko’s training hall.
  2. When he started his acting career, he was working as an operational driver for an Indonesian telecom company, Esia.
  3. He appeared as Rama (one of the rookie members of the special forces unit tasked with raiding Tama’s building) in the 2011 action thriller film The Raid and this performance got him nominated for an Indonesian Movie Award for “Best Chemistry” (shared with Donny Alamsyah).
  4. He used to play soccer for a local Jakarta-based club.
  5. He won the JawaPos Group Award for “Actor of the Year” in 2016.
  6. Alongside Tony Jaa, Tiger Chen, Scott Adkins, Michael Jai White, Michael Bisping, Celina Jade, and Jeeja Yanin, he co-starred as Jaka in the 2019 action film Triple Threat.
  7. He is known to have a phobia of Kerupuk Putih, which is a popular Indonesian snack.
  8. In 2019, he started playing the role of Kai Jin (the main protagonist and a Chinese-Indonesian chef in San Francisco’s Chinatown who learns that he is the last of the Wu Assassins) in the Netflix supernatural action series Wu Assassins.
