Jack Draper Facts

  1. Jack started playing tennis when he was just about 3 years old. He began by practicing against the wall at the tennis club where his mother, a former tennis player, used to coach. At the youth tier, he reached the final of the boys’ singles event at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships. He finished the year having achieved his peak combined (singles and doubles) junior ranking of world number 7.
  2. In June 2021, in the first round of the Queen’s Club Championships (an ATP Tour 500 (the 4th-highest tier of tournaments on the ATP Tour) event), as a wildcard, Jack shocked then world number 23 Jannik Sinner with a straight sets victory. In the 2nd round, he upset then world number 39 Alexander Bublik, again in straight sets.
  3. The result meant that he had reached the quarter-final stage of a tournament on the ATP Tour (a worldwide top-tier tennis tour organized by the ATP) for the first time in his career. He also became the youngest British player, since his idol Andy Murray in 2006, to have reached the quarter-final stage of a tournament on the ATP Tour.
  4. Although Jack lost in the quarter-final to eventual finalist Cameron Norrie, his performance in this tournament meant that he had broken into the ‘Top 250’ of the official ATP singles rankings.
  5. In August 2022, he upset 3rd seed and then world number 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets in the 2nd round of the Canadian Open (an ATP Masters 1000 (an annual series of 9 prestigious tournaments featuring the top-ranked players on the ATP Tour) event). This was the first win of his career over a player ranked in the ‘Top 10’ of the official ATP singles rankings.
  6. After Gaël Monfils, his 3rd-round opponent, retired due to an injury, Jack advanced to the quarter-final stage of an ATP Masters 1000 event for the first time in his career. In the quarter-final, he lost to eventual champion Pablo Carreño Busta in straight sets.
  7. In October 2022, he became the first British player to have qualified for the Next Generation ATP Finals (a year-end men’s youth exhibition tennis tournament (played annually since 2017, except 2020) – contested by the 8 highest-ranked 21-and-under singles players in the season’s ATP Tour). He made it to the semi-final stage of the tournament.
  8. In November 2023, in the 2nd round of the Sofia Open (an ATP Tour 250 (the lowest tier of tournaments on the ATP Tour) event), Jack upset top seed Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets. After another straight-sets victory in the next round (quarter-final), he overcame 3rd seed Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets in the semi-final.
  9. This result meant that he had reached the final of a tournament on the ATP Tour for the first time in his career. He also became the youngest British player to have reached the final of an ATP Tour since Andy Murray in 2009. In the final, he lost to 2nd seed Adrian Mannarino in 3 sets.
  10. In January 2024, at the Adelaide International (another ATP Tour 250 event), Jack defeated 5th seed Sebastián Báez in the first round, top seed Tommy Paul in the quarter-final, and 8th seed Alexander Bublik in the semi-final – all in straight sets. This meant that he had reached the final of a tournament on the ATP Tour for the 2nd time in his career. He again lost in the final – this time to 7th seed Jiří Lehečka in 3 sets.
  11. He has a pet dog – an Australian miniature labradoodle.
  12. Jack’s biggest fear is swimming in the sea because he is afraid of sharks.
