1. He entered the film industry by working as an assistant director and first worked on Shiva Shanmugam’s action film Thagapansamy (2006).
2. In 2012, Pa. Ranjith wrote and directed the Tamil-language romantic comedy film Attakathi. The film stars Dinesh, Nandita Swetha, and Aishwarya Rajesh and it won Ranjith the Jaya TV Award in the “Best Director” category.
3. He wrote and directed the 2014 Tamil-language political action drama film Madras, starring Karthi, Catherine Tresa, and Kalaiyarasan. For this, he won the award for “Best Director” at the Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards, Edison Awards, and Vijay Awards. In addition to that, he won the Ananda Vikatan Cinema Award for “Best Story” as well as the South Indian International Movie Award for “Best Director – Tamil”. The film was also nominated in the “Best Director – Tamil” category at the Filmfare Awards South.
4. Pa. Ranjith wrote and directed the Tamil-language action drama film Kabali in 2016. The film’s lead cast consists of Rajinikanth, Radhika Apte, Winston Chao, Dhansika, and Kishore. For this film, Pa. Ranjith won the Edison Award for “Best Director” as well as got nominated in the same category at the Filmfare Awards South and IIFA Utsavam.
5. He co-wrote and directed the 2018 Tamil-language action drama film Kaala, starring Rajinikanth, Nana Patekar, Samuthirakani, Easwari Rao, and Huma Qureshi. This project won him the award for “Best Dialogue Writer” at the Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards.
6. He produced the 2018 Tamil-language drama film Pariyerum Perumal. The film became a huge success and achieved high critical acclaim as well as won various accolades including the Norway Tamil Film Award and Edison Award for “Best Film” and South Indian International Movie Award and Filmfare Award South in the “Best Film – Tamil” category.
7. In 2019, Pa. Ranjith produced the Tamil-language drama film Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu.

He directed the 2021 Tamil-language period sports action film Sarpatta Parambarai, starring Arya, John Kokken, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Dushara Vijayan, Pasupathy, Anupama Kumar, and Sanchana Natarajan. The film is set in the 1970s and revolves around a clash between two clans namely Idiyappa Parambarai and Sarpatta Parambarai in North Chennai. It bagged the award for “Best Film – Tamil” at the South Indian International Movie Awards and Pa. Ranjith won the Galatta Crown Award for “Best Director”.
9. In 2022, Pa. Ranjith directed the Tamil-language romantic musical drama film Natchathiram Nagargiradhu and it won the Ananda Vikatan Cinema Award in the “Best Film” category. The film’s lead cast consists of Kalidas Jayaram, Dushara Vijayan, and Kalaiyarasan.
10. He has been associated with ‘Neelam Panpaatu Maiyam’ (Neelam Cultural Center) and the organization honored the 100 years of Dalit struggle by establishing life-sized sculptures and documenting the efforts of the Dalit activists.
